IN LIGHT OF THE ON-GOING CONCERNS OF COVID-19
THE CLUB HAS VOTED TO SUSPEND
THE BED AND BREADFAST RAFFLE FOR 2020.
WE HOPE TO BE BACK IN 2021.
WELL, SORT OF) WE MOVED THE MOYA GIFT CERTIFICATE TO THE MAD MONEY,
Here's your chance to spend a night or two in an 1888 'Old Mauch Chunk' Millionare's mansion which retains much of its Victorian charm through details like jeweled stained glass windows, and stunning hand carved woodwork, complete with a grand staircase with its gas lighted newell post and Italianesque mosaic entry floor. Originally built for John C. Dolon, banker for the Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company, founding member of the Second National Bank of Mauch Chunk, and jeweler, this home at 5 West Broadway, directly across from the Mauch Chunk Opera House, displays the Queen Anne Victorian style of the day which unabashedly flaunted the wealth of America's Industrial Era. Today, the Dolon House features the art, antiques, and collections of four decades of travel by innkeepers Jeffri Coleman and Michael Rivkin.
But enough about the past. If you are the next winner of the Bed and Breakfast Raffle, you can book two weekday nights or one weekend night for any available date in 2021, except during October. There's too much to tell here, so check out The Dolon House Bed & Breakfast at www.dolonhouse.com.
But wait, there's more! Whilst in Jim Thorpe you will also be treated to a gourmet dinner at one of the town's most premiere restaurants, Moya. Their dining hours vary by time, day of the week, and season but generally open at 5 pm on Thursday through Sunday. Moya is located at 24 Race St., one block off Broadway in downtown Jim Thorpe and just a short walk from the Dolon House. The gift certificate comes valued at $125 but be sure to tip your wonderful waitstaff. Find out more at www.jimthorpemoya.com. What's more, each gift certificate can be used independently.
All in all, this is a $500 value but your stay in the Switzerland of America will be priceless. Jim Thorpe is a four-season destination, so no matter when you come, you'll find something entertaining to do. Visit www.jimthorpe.org.
The reason we can make this wonderful offer is because of the generosity of innkeepers, Jeffri and Michael and restaurateur, Sephanie Verme and chef, Heri Yunda. They are truely friends of Rotary. Rotarians raise money so they can fund the various projects we sponsor. Ours are listed at the Five Avenues of Service elswhere on this website.
You can be a part of this for this coming year for just $5 per ticket or three for $10. They will be available, September through December when the GhostWalks gather every Friday and Saturday (and Sundays in October) at the Inn at Jim Thorpe. See our schedule under GhostWalks. If you wish, you can also order tickets by calling 570 325-2346 or clicking on "Contact Us." Tickets will also be available at the Dimmick Memorial Library, 54 Broadway, and of course from every member of the club.
The winning ticket for this year's raffle was drawn on December 17, 2019. Congratulations to Ted Kaczynski of Medford, N.J. He has until the end of 2020 to enjoy it. Thanks to all for your support.
