The Rotary Club of Jim Thorpe has a unique role in this dynamic community. Founded as Mauch Chunk to fuel the Industrial Revolution of the 1800's, this town would experience the long ebb of heavy industry in the 1900's. Although still disrupted by economic transition, Jim Thorpe woke to the 21st century holding a special treasure of unspoiled nature and an unparalleled lagacy of historic heritage.
We invite Rotarians from around the country and around the world to visit us, joining thousands from America's nearby cities. Local entrepreneurs have arranged entertainment, sport, and accommodations to fit all tastes. Our Rotarians recognize the economic contributions made by heritage and ecological tourism.
The task before our community is how to best employ both treasure and legacy for the good of all our citizens while preserving this inheritance for the future. This calls for cooperation. It calls for a spirit of common goals. It calls for leadership.
The Rotary Club of Jim Thorpe has long stepped forward to offer that leadership with "Service Above Self" as our guide. Let us continue to reach out to those in our community with needs as we also cultivate and nurture leadership among adults and students. Let us walk in a positive spirit with all service organizations, faith-based fellowships, and schools to usher in a bright future for every Jim Thorpe resident.
